The distance of this park from Nairobi city centre is just 7 km and a fence separates this park from the metropolis. Due to its proximity from the city you can easily view Nairobi's skyline from the park

There have been instances where there have been conflicts between the animals and the locals but still this park boasts of a wide variety of wildlife population. Though the size of this park is small as compared to other African national parks but still this park has been a heaven for wild animals and migrating herbivores in the dry season.

Nairobi National Park is one of the major African wildlife attractions boasting of various types of wild animals like Black rhino, lion, leopard, elands, cheetah, hyena, buffaloes, Giraffe, zebra, wildebeest and diverse birdlife with over 400 species of migratory and endemic birds. Apart from the wildlife, other attractions at this park are the Ivory burning site monument, walking trails at hippo pools, Nairobi safari walk and the orphanage.

These are lots of safari tours being organized at this park and for those who intend to go on a safari at the park will be requiring a safari-card. This card can be obtained and loaded at the main gate of the park. Tourists and visitors are required to provide valid passport or national ID for getting the safari-card.
